I am really in love with the looks of the older Newell's and am seriously thinking of selling my 2002 Monaco and going with one of the classic's. What I'm wondering is what changes have they made over the years in regards to insulating factors, structure or frame changes and engines that I should be aware of and possibly consider one over the other? I even like the looks of the angled windows and notice on a couple in the gallery here they may have changed around 1988? Any help would be great.

Hey Dave,
I believe that there was very little structural difference between the Newell Classics. My 1978 has "sprayed in" foam insulation which would have been "state of the art" in it's day. Be very aware of the integrity of the frame and floor of the bays on early models. They are very strong but corrosion can be a factor. I am updating my Newell as I go. I've found a more modern spade-type fuse block from an RV salvage store. Updated the House battery charger, new fridge and furnace etc. As far as power some folks aren't impressed with the Cummins 555 but I have not had any problems with it and have always been able to find whatever parts I need. It is much easier to work on than the DD V series engines.
