Outdoor Lights

So I have done no research or looked into this at all, but I was looking at my coach and wondered if they make an l.e.d. replacement light for the exterior lights? I know some have converted there coaches to all led but didn't know if these are possible.

Think I remember someone saying this was a Ford pickup truck light, the one outside over the rear glass that lights up the bed.
That may help narrow it down, you might find a led bulb replacement (would make it easier)

you can buy led bulbs to go in them. so a couple of things to keep in mind.

1. will the bulb fit. the more led's it has the bigger it is.
2. the lens is often yellowed. it will take a way from the bulb brightness

i am not sure how long newell used them. alot of bus converters used these for quite a while. so not sure what year newell changed to something else.

Got the new l.e.d bulbs installed. Unfortunately they are not as bright. They do put out quite a bit of light, but it is not as bright as the other. I am still debating on keeping them or not because they put out a cool glow.

What I have found is that the LED Light Bulbs are much better at night and after they have been on for a while. I have staggered mine so that if I need more light I can use an Incandescent Light.
You should be amazed at the power draw or lack of it when using the LEDs.

Depends on the application. I have found that the LED reading lights I replaced are actually brighter than the old incandescent ones, and register almost NO power drain. So far I have installed 5 of the reading light fixtures, and changed the bulbs in the two over the cockpit area from incandescent bulbs to LED's and they put out great light. One key, and no doubt you discovered this on their site, is that the more you pay, the more "lumens" you get. I wasn't sure how many lumens I needed so there was a little trial and error until I found the LED bulbs that most closely matched the brightness (lumens) I already had, but they were expensive.

I also replaced the "aisle" lights (look like license plate lights), and the light that luminates the stairway (also a license plate light). These replacements are just as bright, if not brighter.

Now, the one area where I had about 12 incandescent bulbs (automotive type) to replace on the overhead storage compartment doors above my couch I found that the bulbs I chose do NOT put out equivelant light, however, my wife likes the softer light. I could upgrade to more expensive bulbs, and may, but for right now we are happy with the effect. The picture below is of the sconces before we replaced the bulbs. If you were sitting below them the light kind of glared in your eyes, and Elaine found the old bulbs irritating. I'll try to get a picture of them after the change. Those 12 incandescent bulbs really put off heat, and drew about 5 amps, or more!

Thanks for the advise. I just re-ordered another type of led that was $22 a bulb! I only paid $7 for the others, so hopefully this makes a big difference!

I was told that GM has discontinued making them by Newell and several GM parts sources, but I found gaskets at Parliament Coach in Florida and they were only discontinued this year so there should be some in inventory somewhere. Newell told me that they have no parts or gaskets for them in stock. I am replacing the engine compartment light with a larger LED fixture since it doesn't need to match anything inside the engine cover.

i just ordered a new lense on ebay for 9 bucks shipped. if it doesnt come with a gasket i will just make one.

i have gotten two of them from him. $8.75 shipped. no gasket, but i made one in 5 min out of weatherstripping.

Hi Tom,
The more expensive bulb works good...but it should for $22! I feel like this is a personal preference... My two neighbors who have Newells and one changed to l.e.d and the other kept his old bulbs. In my opinion the incandescent bulbs are more practical. They give out more light and are useful. The l.e.d however is bright and gives a cool glow, but not as much useful light. If you do decide to order new bulbs, be careful as I order some off ebay that came from hong kong that were said to be the same part # but the terminals were different and I blew out several fuses in my coach. However, superbrightleds.com sells the correct bulbs: the part number is 1142, and make sure it is a dual contact bulb.
