anyone know the location of the ddec box on an 87? i believe i have one because of the override switch and two temp sensors- at the thermostats and a liquid level control ( iss-pro) under the dash any help would be appreciated Brian

My 1988 Newell Coach #179 is one of the last Newells to not have DDEC.
We have a red emergency override on the dash and thermostats that
will shut down the engine.

i do not believe you have a ddec. like ron said, it will mechanically shut down based on temperature sensors and not by the ddec before they were installed. which i think started in 89 or 90. but, anything is possible.

if for some chance you have one, it is a silver box on top of the engine toward the radiator if i remember on the passenger side on mine. it has a bunch of wires going to it. the box i think is about the size of a good sized rectangular fist.

another indicator would be a ddec diagnostic plug under the dash to the right side of the steering wheel. on mine it is a flat plug. that is where i plug my scanner into.

good luck

Hi Brian
Good to be back on line. My ddec plug for a scanner is to the right of the driver under mid console on the floor. The box is on the back end of the engine on top.

See ya in Yuma.

We should be there mid Nov. Haven't installed the drains yet but I keep thinking about them.
Have to block up the coach and we seem to always be on dirt surface, would like a nice hard surface and some heavy duty stands. Maybe at Newell, we need to stop and get some h2o filters on our way down south. Crawled under and opened up the air tanks up front and no water, also checked the fuel tank drain like you mentioned for you know what and it was fine. Have fun at the flats.
