I will be installing a RO System in our coach soon. I was wondering about the installations and consequences.
It looks like either a system that would supply all of the water or a simpler system for only the drinking and ice-maker.
We are going into Algodones tomorrow so a stop in Yuma at the Water Filter place is on the list.
Thanks in advance

Steve,

What do you plan to do with the waste water from the RO unit?

Dump in black tank?
Dump on ground?
Dump back into water tank?

For me, a system that supplies drinking and ice is plenty. And that comes from a guy who lived in West Texas where the water would bite you coming straight out of the tap. RO was a must.

The more water you process the more often you will have to replace the RO membrane.

We, too, are looking at installing an RO system. We've had one in our kitchen at our former home for 26 years, and had the filters and membrane replaced every twelve months. We probably processed about 3-5 gallons per day for drinking and making coffee when we had all five kids at home. Probably more like a gallon per day with just the two of us and one kid the last two years.

We have, in the mean time, been using the Zero Water system to filter drinking water in the Newell, and it works great, and the water produced is delicious! We use 4 1.5 liter bottles (kept in the pantry) to store the water until we use it. Every time we drain one bottle we start filtering water to fill it back up and then put it at the back of the rotation.

you are not going to find an RO system that will do "whole house" for the coach. with the waste ratio being somewhere between 4-8 gallons for every gallon of RO water, it just wont work. at least the ones i know of wont process water fast enough for showers and faucets....

so, stick with one for the drinking and ice water and call it good.

I installed the system the other day for drinking water and icemaker. Worked great the first couple of days then slowed down production yesterday. I may need the booster pump but I will be checking pressures today prior to spending any more $$$$$$

OK, all is well with the new system. I found that the Regulator on the coach need to be adjusted up. With a little over 40 psi we are making great water and all that we can use for drinking and making ice.
I bought the 5 Stage system from Interstate Water Systems in Yuma, AZ;
http://www.interstatewater.com/

The system cost around $200.00 and was easy to install. They had knowledgeable and good product support.
Here is the system;

Good news Steve....most often it is something simple....

Had an RO system installed last week. It has a 1-1 ratio...for every gallon of purified water there is a gallon of waste. We just have to check the gray tank a little more often, but it is so nice not having to manually purify water anymore. We included in the package a 4 watt UV light to kill any bugs that get through (makes a nice night light under the sink...haha!). We had it professionally installed, so there was a labor charge. We have a 1.5 gallon resevoir tank. We've been using Kool Filtration for about 24 years to service our system in our home.

post more information on what you had installed. 1 gallon lost for each 1 gallon made seems too good to be true.
Do you know what the TDS (total dissolved solids) are? I bought a TDS meter after installing our unit just to help keep track of the output.

We have had RO for years. About 1 good to 4 bad, but can change it if needed. We dump the waste back in the fresh water tank.
