I hope that the Borders get a little safer and I'll just go to Los Algodones or San Luis to fill up :olol!

Steve, can you legally burn that fuel here? If so why not have it brought over.

prairieschooner

you have to go there to get it. I'm sure the smog police would have a fit! this is the high sulfur fuel

Yeah Russo, we wouldn't want to damage the environment! Remember it is better for us to pay thru the nose than it is to pollute the air.

It is o.k. for Mexico to burn high sulfur diesel but not the U.S. As a matter of fact, it is o.k. for everyone on the planet to burn high sulfur diesel as long as we don't.

Boy, I sure hope that I have not offended anyone by this post!

No offense, Tuga.....just the plain old truth.

HoosierDaddy
04-23-2011, 10:53 PM
Yes yes Tuga.......soooooo tired of regulations etc.

Anyone considering running high sulfur fuel should be sure to use an engine oil that has at least a 10 TBN rating. Sulfuric acid will cause increased wear on the engine.

Hmmmm, does Rotella T 40wt have a 10 TBN rating?
fixing to change my oil next week.

If I could buy it. I would use it.......Whats the fine? and who enforces it.
In LOUISIANA? BP!!

Hi Forest, According to Shell's data sheet the 15W40 Rotella is TBN-E 11.5 so your good.
If you are using the 40W that is probably Rotella T1. I think the TBN is 10.6 on that oil.
It is good to do an oil analysis when you change oil. Make sure the TBN stays above 10.

I have been using Chevron DELO 100. It is getting harder to find although so far it is still available at West Marine but has to be ordered for over a gallon or two. Since I am in and out of harbors it is easiest for me to buy it there.
I still have some Diesel from the PEMEX Station in our Saddle Tank but may need to get some more at $2.95/gallon! And the Shrimp Tacos are well worth the trip.
There is a little Taco Stand in Algodones that the Shrimp look to be wiggling when they go into the Batter. I always start with two but am embarrassed to say how may I eat before we leave, yum yum!:wub::thumbsup:

My coach has always used Shell Rotella heavy duty 40wt, also difficult to find on West Coast.

hi matt,

until recently i had an employee living in the UK. alot of people have diesel cars. fuel has been between 8 and 9 dollars a gallon after converting from litres for a long time there.

when darlene and i lived in israel last year and early this year gas was about 8 dollars per gallon converted. cost me 125 us dollars to fill the tank on a mid sized car.

when i go to malaysia and china, fuel is subsidized there so is cheaper than here.

alot of places have been paying way more than we do now. it has driven the development of high mileage cars out of necessity. the renault diesel car my employee had in the UK got 50mpg. when i moved him here to the usa he was less than pleased with the mileage american cars get.

we have been on the road in this newell now for 11 months had a few problems so just fix them and off again heading north next week so will throw another thousand dollars in the tank ,the big tank makes a differance when we drive past the exspensve servos

the amount of fuel we use is nothing ,when you compare it to the sights, sounds, smells ,the people we meet it is an amazing expereance

Since he didn't like the mileage of the cars, take him for a ride in the Newell and gently advise him of the mileage it gets:)

Gaz,

Am understanding your math correctly? $1.73 (US) per litre X 3.8 (litres in a gallon) would be $6.56 per gallon for diesel! Ouch!

I have another question: I have heard that in Australia the width of a motorhome can not exceed 96 inches. So a 102" Newell could not be legally driven on the Australian roads.

How much does it cost to ship a Newell from the US to Australia?

I would love to go to Australia one day. I have heard that it is beautiful. Maybe we could have a rally in Australia! That would be wild!

Oil is paid for in US Dollars, the less value to the dollar, the more dollars for same amout oil.....
I do understand that all oil purchases, regardless of country, is paid for in US Dollars.

I leave all "fire power" in the states! The Mexican Government frowns upon weapons and ammunition although when here there is enough to give lead poisoning.

$3.04 in Mexico but 4.19 and up in Larry's home town of Hemet, CA. That is very reasonable when one considers that it is $4.95 in San Diego, CA.
I would be willing to make trips into Mexico for Larry and others using 5 Gallon Cans as long as you guys would pay my expenses. The expenses should be reasonable with only Lodging, Meals, Fuel and Entertainment. Sorry but I have no idea how much this would run until I made a couple of runs (I would however be able to provide most of the receipts).
