I have the AquaHot system that produces hot water for heating as well as domestic use. The water temperature in the AquaHot is maintained at a higher temperature than is safe for domestic use and incorporates a temperature controlled mixing valve on the domestic water.

My water temperature was controlled at about 107 degrees and I wanted it slightly hotter. The mxing valve is adjustable and located near the bottom of the AquaHot system and slightly behind the diesel pump and burner assembly. I was unable to get it to turn with my limited access and decided to remove the burner assembly to get at the valve. The attached picture shows the valve with the burner moved out of the way. I was then able to turn the valve. If you look at the picture you can see the two red marks that were lined up before I made my adjustment. The water temperature is now 117 degrees. Russ

i put the same tempering valve on my 1990 to take the temperature DOWN. since my hot water is heated by the engine coolant through a heat exchanger and or electric, when the heat exchanger is heating it the temps are wayyyyy to high.

sure seems like they could have made it a little more accessable on the aquahot but then again people probably never change it. most probably didnt even know it was there.

thanks russ

FYI: My Aqua-Hot was overheating the water electrically. A kitchen stove test with my infra-red gun showed the metalic disk in the thermostat that changes shape & breaks electrical contact for on/off control of the heating element was activating at the right temp.

But still the water was overheating. My infra-red gun showed there was an unexplained cool area on the Aqua-Hot that the disk was attached to, under-reporting the actual water temp. Newell & Aqua-Hot had no suggestions for cause or cure.

So I went online & found the disk manufacturer in Southern California, they offered the disk in various on & off temp variations. In 5 degree increments. I chose a 20 degree lower "off" temp, now the Aqua-Hot shuts works fine.

Great job Russ, but is that a wire with melted insulation?
Way to go Barry, in my working career we called that "field adjustments"!

Barry,
If possible can you post the manufacturer's web site and part #?

It certainly looks like it in the picture, but it's not. What you are seeing is the protective sheath on a large bundle of wires. The sheath is kind of tattered and I will put replacing it on the list. Russ
