Hey,
We're a couple of Okies who just purchased one of the greatest RV's ever built. This all happen because of a fire in our Monaco, totaled. We've been full timers since 1996. We had lived in Tulsa for 35 years, where I worked for Rockwell. My wife was born at Fallis, OK. near OKC, and I was born at Alluwe, OK. 45 miles NE from Tulsa. Just a couple of farm kids. We went to Oklahoma A&M, which was later changed to OSU.
I have so many questions you can't believe. We just drove from Tulsa to Las Vegas, where we'll spend the winter in the RV Park at Sam'stown Casino, so drop in and say Hi. So here is my first question: what's the little handle on the right side of the steeringwheel, that has "NOT FOR PARKING" on it. I don't know much about this note writing either, so please foregive me if I mess it up.

We have a 96 and also from Oklahoma!

As far as the Not for Parking, I don't know. I will go out in our coach later today and see if we have something like that, but I don't think so.

We have been the owners of a '99 Newell for almost two years. We love it! I'm sure you are thrilled and will be even more impressed once you figure everything out.
Just ask any question and you will find the forum has many folks who will go out of their way to provide you the help you need. Welcome to the forum.
Now to answer your question. My coach has no such handle. Don't let that discourage you as you are going to find that no two Newells are the same. Russ White and I have coaches that are one apart and I think we're close to a thousand differences.

I went out and looked at ours and we don't have anything like that at all in our coach. Sorry wish I could have been able to tell you something.

Hopefully someone else will chime in and help out.

You can call Newell and talk with Mike in Service, he is very helpful and will be happy to help you with it.

Could it be for an auxilliary air brake for a trailer?
Some 18-wheelers have this so they can apply the trailers brakes if it starts to jackknife or on slippery roads.

Congratulations on your new purchase. I have #512, a 1999 Newell 45' with 2 slides. My wife and I love the coach. We recently remodeled the inside; recovered sofas, dinette, and bedspread. The bedroom got a new vinyl/wood floor and a new Samsung LCD HD TV.

The lever on the right side of your steering wheel has me stumped! Not for Parking! I don't have a clue, but I'll bet one of the service guys at Newell can tell you.

Welcome to the 500 club. Anyone with a coach starting with 5 is a member:) Well, okay, I just made that up.

My '99 is #530 but it got a new face and new clothes from the factory in '04. It's home for me right now and I am happy with it. At 45' 9" and 50,000 lbs it is a handfull.

I like Forrest's thought for your mystery handle. But you know what they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words", so please be sure to post a picture of both the handle and your coach. We all love to play detective and one can never see too many Newells.

I am pretty sure the lever you are referring is to activate your trailer brakes when you are towing something that is set up with brake. It also could be for air lines cut off for the tow.

By George Forest I think you hit it. I recall seeing about the same thing on by brother's truck, that he pulled his 5th wheel with. But I have many more question, like in my bedroom attached to the ceiling fan, I find a heavy metal L shape hanging down from the driver's sideof the fan. Is this just used to push the fan in when you bring the slide out in, or does it work both ways. Now I need to push the fan back over the center of the bed after putting out the slide. I also have an air leak on the front right somewhere, it keeps the 120 compresser working all the time, so far my fix on that is to turn the pump off. LOL, Thanks so much to all, this is a wonderful place to be.

You should not be able to see the heavy "L" bracket. It should be hidden behind a valance the runs across the top of the bedroom slide. Once behind the valance, the valance pull or pushes the fan along its own slide as the bedroom slide goes in and out. See the attched pictures.
One shows the valance removed and you can see the "L" bracket. The other with the valance properly installed with the "L" backet behind it and hidden.

Thanks Russ for the pic's and the info on the L bracket, I had a feeling that was the way it worked, if not when I forget to slide it back I would run into it and cut my head. These things always turn into more questions. How do I remove the valance correctly, so I can replace it properly with the L bracket behind it? It must of been out of alignment when it came apart because it chewed up the leather like covering on the side toward the back of the rig. But that's another job.

You need to pull in the slide about half way. The valance lifts straight up and will release. It helps to have a person on each end. Once lights off, move the fan outward as far as it will go and put the valance back on by pushing it outward and then down. There are no screws or fasteners involved, just a long bracket and fits tightly over a lip on the slideout. Once you get it off you will see how it all works. Like everything else in the Newell, it is a little heavy so be careful. I have done both the remove and install on my own, but don't recommend it. It takes some time to get it back on as the valance must be pushed behind the lip at every location before it will drop into position.
