I have a Kohler 12.5 diesel generator with the Perkins engine and I am wondering what the steady output of the genset should be? My volt meter shows about 117-118 volts. My gauge goes up to 150 volts. Is this the correct range or should it be 120 volts?

thanks,
Joe

117-118 is perfectly acceptable Joe. The generator governor is set by the factory to operate at 60-63 Hz, 1800 rpm under full load and 1890 rpm under no load. If you have access to a frequency meter, you could verify that the generator is producing 60-63 Hz but I suspect that it is. I use a device called the "Kill A Watt" that plugs into an electric outlet. It will show the voltage or frequency (Hz) of the power source or the amperage draw of what ever is plugged into the Kill A Watt.

Adjustment of the governor is typically not required. If it is outside of the operating frequency range with a load on the generator, such as an air condition, and you don't know how to adjust the governor, let me know.
