Enclosed shower question...

Our 1996 Newell shower has a broken upper track...the part where the top rollers roll on when the door is open/closed. Does anyone know where we can get a replacement piece/suggestions on replacing a new track?

hi, is your shower enclosure the quarter circle with the curved glass shower door? mine is a cessana shower enclosure.

parts are avail but are very very expensive. a new enclosure is about 2500 plus shipping. if you are talking about just the plastic track/rail, it is expensive but if i recall less than 30 dollars.

each part is avail separately. that round tube above the opening is the same for the top and the bottom. each tube (just the arch) is about 60-70 dollars. i wanted to get the upper and lower tube, new rollers the plastic rail on top and the quote was about 600 bucks.

if it is that enclosure, if you email me your contact info i can send you the files and quotes i got. there are only a couple of places that sell the parts and they were both the same price.

i ended up taking mine apart and bending some of it back to shape (at the suggestion of ron skeen) and it fixed it.

I have the same shower in my coach. The door grinds away at the top tube...and I have been at a loss as to how to fix. Is that the problem that you had?...and re-bending the tube fixed the problem?

Replacement from Newell for the track is $160 plus shipping and buy the plexi lock to hold the rollers off the track when not in use as this will preserve the new plastic track you install and resolve all the issues in this string. Just did this fix last year. Leave the plastic insert in the sun for an hour to soften before installing.

The metal tubes on mine have expansion joints that make adjustment simple, but require a second set of strong hands to hold while you tighten. Learned this at Newell and it was simple to do. It actually helps the tubes back to the original form.

hi bill,

on mine the door was coming off when you tried to close it. the upper tube that the rollers were on was bent down about 1/2" that caused the door to dip and then come off on the bottom. the tube itself wasnt bent, just the connectors on each end of it were. i took it apart and bent the connectors on each end back straight (carefully) and put it back together and it is just fine.

I am curious where you got the price on the plastic strip ? It is a plastic and rubber strip bonded together and I have found similiar ones that are only plastic and do not have the rubber surface for the roller contact. It makes a difference as the rubber allows the rollers to slightly compress to keep the door from sliding to easy and with smoother operation. The cheapest I found this was $140 but decided to get it from Newell at the time as there were a few different ones to choose from and figured they would send me the correct one. I have seen others on Newells that crack and the door moves too freely. I will take a photo of the plexi locktoday and will try to attempt my first photo post. It is a simple device that ingeniously raises the door when locked in place so the rollers wont depress the rubber on the plastic strip for long periods creating divots that lead to eventual failure.

mine has just a plastic strip. so if there is a one that has rubber on it too i am not familiar with it. i would be interested in knowing more about it. as well as the plexi lock.

I got the strip from Chuck in parts from Newell. I have seen two other coaches that had only plastic too and they both had top cracks. The rubber/plastic bonded combo is also much more flexible. I took a photo of the plexi and will upload asap. It will be difficult at best for you to copy without a template as it locks over the top of the door and enclosure and as you pull it down in place it lifts the whole door up and the rollers suspend above the rubber/plastic strip and the spring catches at the bottom hold the door in place. Very well engineered for a simple device. Chuck at newell may be able to send you dimensions but at $15 worth buying from them. Very minimal shipping cost since small and light. If you do get one from Newell make sure to sand and round the edges as they are sharp and will cut you when handling.
