New Blinds anyone? Shopping for the Newell!

I was wondering what type of interior blinds are best?

Regular metal/plastic venetian or day/night fabric shades?

Would like something easy to clean and dependable. Of course privacy is important too!

Pros and cons please, your experience is important!

you have dozens of options and personal taste dictates choice. Hunter Douglas is the Newell choice and they are quiet, easy to clean and provide the best blind there is with a lifetime warranty on parts. They are expensive and average about $1500 per blind and about $250 installation for each blind. They are guaranteed for life and worth it in my opinion. Every other blind has it's features and look and your taste will play the biggest part.

I've had both, I like the day/night shades best because they are quieter on the road and give the option of see-thru window coverings or privacy, I originally had just regular blinds but those things rattled and swung back and forth and were just a plain headache, if you go with day/night shades be sure to go with good ones, good ones will last a long, long time, cheap ones you won't like and you'll be replacing and restringing them until you curse them lol, good ones will be trouble free almost forever, thats what I've found anyway.

No, A Hunter Douglas installer. We had a guy who contracts directly with HD do our work and cleaning. Newell can do it too, but I was able to get a HD factory guy who came to my coach in Florida.

Our HD Silo's are electronically adjusted for day and night and there are no strings. Newell I am sure will have a different markup than getting it done by a HD factory/distributor in your own town or region. It could be more or less depending

Thank you for the help and recommendations. We are going to check into these here companies that you gave us. The HD day/night blinds sound like some real nice quality blinds. We plan on doing a few upgrades and I'll be penciling out our options.

I would love to upgrade on those but at $1750 each is steepage.:ohmy: Was this the price for every size of blind or the larger ones? What kind of blind did you replace using these Hunter Douglas Silo's?

Steve thanks for sharing the photos, It looks great! Very nicely done, you're an inspiration for those who want to do it themselves. Ultimately for us it would be nice to find someone who can do it for us. Not sure if we have the patience to do the job. :confused: But for the savings I better think long and hard about doing it ourselves. :laugh: Where did you purchase the shades to install yourself?

2840I used cellular shade which were honey comb and black out. I did this about 6 years ago and I am not sure about the details but will try to find out it anyone interested. They are a liftime guarrantee and I have sent a couple back for new strings. The one on the front or cordless. They really make a different on the heating and cooling. I am sure that I spent less than 1K for all window and I did do the install myself. I have one that I have to take down and send back for repair and I will get the Manufacture name and number off of the blind.

All these nice upgrades other have or have going on are getting my wife antsy for another Newell to design on. Otherwise she said she will work on someone Else's just for something to do.:blink:

The shades we installed are not exactly the best. We did not know that at the beginning. We ordered them from a shop I would not recommend. The price was 2/3rds of any other we got, the shipping was prompt, the people were nice to work with, but they are too thin of a shade. We will keep them, I just don't think they will last. Go with the BEST you can afford. You will be happy in the long-run. You will love Day/Nights over the rattle blinds.
