View Full Version : Tire chains for our Newell

Our family will be heading to Yosemite the first week of November. If you know anything about Yosemite weather then you know it is very unpredictable, the weather may be perfect or we may run into some sprinkling of snow. I am wanting to know if anyone has ever needed chains with their newell and how did it handle, where is the best place to get them, and what's the best brand or type? Which tires would I chain? just the outside tires? Any info would help, thanks in advance.

I would avoid using chains. If you decide to put on chains or at least get them, a single rear wheel should suffice. Can get them at most truck stops or tire centers and some even allow returns if not used. There are states will require you to chain rear axle of toad if you are towing one.

If I had to worry about chains I wouldn't travel. But that's just my 2 cents. ;)

I agree if conditions get bad enough that I would need chains, I would park and ride out the weather. Chains have a tendency to tear things up if even just one end gets loose. I have chained up trucks enough times that I don't need to do it anymore.

Don't travel if Chains are Required its not worth it in my book.

I have chained many cars and a couple of semi's over the years and a couple of times on Class A's, once going up the US97 in Oregon and it was no matter of choice as

a surprise storm came into Reno while we were asleep. I was delivering new coaches and there were no chains on board so I had to pay the price and buy them. It is not

hard putting them on but I do know that if one comes loose and you sustain some damage on one of these Newell's it won't be cheap. I wouldn't wish that bill or hazard

on anyone. Of course it is always best to avoid travels in harsh conditions whenever possible and you snowbirds better be in your roost down south before the snow

We use our Newell to GO AWAY from bad weather! Not GO TO it!! LOL
