Difference between silver series 6v92 detriot and non silver 6v92 engine

Does anybody by chance know the difference and how to tell the difference between the engine below:

What is a silver 6v92 compared to a standard 6v92 and how would i know which one a coach has and if it really is a silver series? Didn't know if its more horse power or different turbo or guts?

Post by: belfert on November 08, 2006, 07:52:19 AM To be certain, I would try calling your local Detroit dealer with the serial number and they should be able to tell you the history of the motor. (At least they can with Series 60. Maybe 6V92s are too old for the database.)

8V92 DD Silver engines began with the serial number F73594 any number after that is a Silver engine.

These began in 1982

There probably are other changes between "green" and silver engines but certainly the silver is substantially less likely to leak oil. The changes were not all made at once and I can't recall the exact sequence but a little internet research will make it clear. That said, my 1985 engine leaks nary a drop since in-frame overhaul. Before overhaul it was leaking a lot of oil through the head to block interface that some idiot had used RTV instead of the appropriate o-ring to seal.
