I'd like to hang out here for a while. My wife and I are interested in purchasing either a Wanderlodge or Newell from the late 80's vintage. Purchase won't be for a couple of years, three at the most.

We currently live full time in an Automate FW due to a job away from our permanent residence. We just returned from a Sacramento to Nashville I-40 trip to see grandkids. Did the trip in an 84 Toyota Dolphin MH that we refurbished. This was our second long trip in the Dolphin. Very different than a Newell, but fun.

My last name is Newell, not related to the Newell Coach folks.

Hi there and welcome Fred! The wife and I had been considering both the Wanderlodge and Newell for quite a while. Both are great quality and similar in many ways. Newell is still in business which is a huge plus for many owners even those with the late 80's vintage. I think it will just have to come down to styling and amentities preferences.

I concur with Gone Busing. We have owned two Wanderlodges with the first being an '88 and we loved both of those coaches. Our current coach is a Newell and its been just splendid.

Hello & Welcome Fred,

IMO You can't go wrong with either coach except that with Newell ownership comes Newell service. 24/7 hotline if you encounter an issue. How can you beat that???

:welcome: Fred Newell! It's always nice to have some new folks here on the forum. Being that your last name is Newell I think it would be kind of fun to have a Newell Coach too.

Welcome Fred and wife! Fulltimers already? Refurbished a motorhome? Sounds like you will have lots to share here with us. Glad you could join us! You will find the Newell coach and Wanderlodge are both great coaches. We look forward to your posts.

Back in 1991 we were camping our motorhome in an RV park @ Benbow CA which is in Humboldt County. We took a day trip in our honda (tow car) and found the town on the Eel River where we now have a house. I also saw an old Newell coach making a 25mph run up the hill of the freeway with the screaming diesel engine and blowing black smoke. I knew in my heart of hearts that I wanted "one of those". Most of the Newells we've seen since then have been better looking, but it was the old relic that gave me the bug.

Fred,

With your last name it's only natural that your drawn to Newell's.

As far as having lots to share goes... our experience has been with the cosmetics of interior, and general upkeep of the parts of an aluminum over wood frame RV body that are prone to water leaks. For what it's worth, there is a wealth of info and interesting reading on the toyota RVs forum.

IMO the experience we have is a good starting point, but stepping into a Newell or Wanderlodge takes it to another level in terms of mechanics. The appliances look about the same in concept, at least for the 80's vintage.

There is a whole cult following for the Toyota MH thing.

:welcome:Fred to this site and hopefully to a future luxury coach lifestyle. Sounds like a classic is in order for you folks. Either way you go whether its a Newell or Wanderlodge, I'm sure you will be a happy camper. But with the classic last name Newell, it would be a class act to own a Newell. Wow, wouldn't that steer up some interesting campfire chat.

Speaking of your little Dolphin, I had one in my possession for a short time once upon a time and there was no forum in existence to help like there is today. It was a trade deal and it was then traded on another. Great little coach.

Welcome Mr. Fred Newell! You will find that the Newell Coaches have quite the following as well. Once a Newell owner always a Newell owner in my opinion!

I have this vision (humor) of towing the Dolphin behind the Newell. Either as a spare or as "up for sale".
