Zip Dee Awning Installation ?

My Zip Dee awning is torn, and I was wondering if I bought a whole new one how hard it would be to install it ? Is their some tutorial that I could look at that would walk me through it ?

Are you wanting replace the whole unit or replace the awning fabric like Jon mentioned above? Fabric is not all that hard to replace and we can help walk you through if you get in a jamb.

Ken; I was wanting to replace entire awning with a new one. I will have to check into an automatic awning.

It can be done by two or three people and some ladders. Scaffolding would be easier, but probably not practical. Once you have the new awning, taking the old one off is not difficult. If your not up to this type of project contact an professional rv repair shop and have them do your install.

Hey 2Strokediesel: I'm curious why you want to replace the whole thing especially if the metal parts are in good shape.

I've had my window awnings off for cleaning and some sewing of seams and I was able to do that by myself but I reckon two or three people could take down and put up a patio awning as mentioned above.

There is nothing complicated about working on these things except for the unwinding and winding of the roll-up spring, I lost some skin when I lost control of the arm while doing that, but I didn't break anything and if I don't leave a little blood behind no one will know I was there.

Reason for replacing whole awning was that I am unsure what it would take to replace the fabric and thought it might end up being cheaper too just replace the entire awning.

Most of the cost for a patio awning, or a window awning is the hardware. If you can replace the fabric, and save the hardware you might save a lot of money, but the people at ZipDee will be more than happy to give you advice on the most cost effective way to go. A few years ago I decided to add a third and fourth window awning on the drivers side to cover the kitchen and shower windows. The ZipDee person suggested ordering one awning long enough to cover both windows, and it save me $200. With the thorough installation instructions provided my wife and I were able to install it in a couple of hours. A number of people here on this site have seen the new awning, and were amazed at how it matched the 28 (at the time) year old window awnings already on the coach. It is the middle awning in the picture above.

I agree Clarke, Steve Magown and I just installed a new awning over the dinette window on my coach. Easy to install and the fabric matched my other 20 year old awnings.

I have changed course to the tune of having new fabric installed instead of replacing my entire awning thank to everyone here! Will let you all know how it goes.
