I changed the oil filter in my kohler generator today. After letting the generator run for approx an hour, there was a little drop of oil on the bottom of the oil filter. Do I need to tighten that up more? I've heard that you don't want to over tighten them. The filter I took out had oil caked on the bottom of the filter.

Thought I should mention that it's always a good idea to Keep a log or record book of your maintenance. For example with this oil change record the date, hours on the generator, what kind of oil, how much you used, what kind of oil filter, how much oil you drained. Same for the rest of your coach. If you really want to get crazy with the generator next oil change send a sample out to be checked or analyzed. Costs about $30 per sample. You can and should do the same for the engine.

Now go cruising and have some fun.

I'm with Newell Boss oil samples are always a great way to collect information about your Newell. Now about your oil filter Be careful, if you over tighten them they end up leaking were they're at and can be difficult to get off. Wipe the filter off and keep an eye on it first. I only hand tighten first then tighten with your tool.

Mine had a drop or 2 and after looking closely I found that a hose clamp was not as tight as it should have been,I replaced the clamp with a new one and the drips stopped.

Good advice Jack, It reminds us all that sometimes it's those minor items that can cause some of those pesky problems.

When you took the old filter off did you check to make sure the rubber ring came off also and didn't stick on the generator?
