I am shopping for a used newell motor coach. I looked at one with 128000 miles on it. It is very clean inside and outside, but the diesel generator has 2415 hours on it. Is this something that I should be concerned about, or does such a generator have a lot of remaining life.

Please share your knowledge and experience with me. Thanks, Frenchy

My new to us '98 has 3000 hours on the 20kw diesel generator. These typically go 10,000 hours before needing any major repairs or overhaul as long as the maintenance is kept up. If I run it an average of 30 hours a month I should have almost 20 years left!
One of the best things about Newells is the quality of the components.

:dito: At 2415 hours it has barely been broken in. If you're worried about the maintenance, get an oil sample and have it analyzed.

I would be more concerned if it had too few hours than to many. That Gen should run carefree for thousands of hours as long as it is run regularly and the proper maintenance has been preformed.

I would trust a generator that has a couple of thousand hours on it versus a couple of hundred hours. If you don't run them or use them, chances are when you really need it, it won't run at all. There was a thread a while back about generator hours. Let me see if I can find it.

It's my understanding those hours are equivalent to about 96000 miles. 40 miles per hour. So that's not that bad on a diesel engine

I believe on most generators general maintenance requirement is 1 hour run time a month I believe. If properly maintained / serviced I would say it's like new at 2,400 hours and at the same rate of use and proper service will perform for many, many years.

Just my guess.
