Is there an adjustment on the microphor air operated toilets to lower the amount of water used per flush?

I believe that there is. Call Microphor at 800 358-8280 ext 122 for tech support. They are awesome at helping resolve problems.

It tells you how in the owners manual. If you don't have one, you should get one because they are a great help. It's pretty easy to adjust but I don't have mine her at home or I would tell you how.

You can adjust the water height by adjusting the flush timing cycle. Turn the air pressure regulator mounted on the wall under the vanity. The regulator is a 3" x 1" brass cylinder with a 3/8" knurled knob on the end and a couple of air fittings and hoses. Twisting the knob will adjust the toilet cycle time and the amount of water dumped into the bowl. The water level should just over the flapper.

Toilets feature either a chain or a wire that attaches the handle to the rubber ball or flapper located at the bottom of the tank.

Allen , you are referring to a conventional toilet, not a Microphor. The toilet can also be adjusted inside the back of the tank. See the manual. It's simple stuff...

Ready to attack my next "repair" and could use a little additional knowledge before starting. My Microphor toilet has developed a small water leak that eventually leaks thru my floor tiles. I believe I've isolated the problem to be caused by a leak at the hopper gasket. Unfortunately it's difficult to see all of the hopper, so I'm not sure exactly where it's coming out but it appears I will have to pull the toilet out to fix. Does that assembly come out in one piece after disconnecting the water line and main air line?

Thanks Sean but I have my original manuals, I just don't know how much needs to be disconnected in order to get to the point where I could see the entire hopper to replace the gasket. By the way, I look forward to meeting you someday also.

Larry, from the ones that I have seen, once you disconnect the main water and air lines it should be good to go. You don't have to disassemble the toilet to replace the flapper valve rubber ring on a Microphor toilet.

As my wife and I have been looking at different Newells to purchase we have been wondering about these microphor toilets and how much of a pain they may be to own. One particular Newell looked at it with a bad flapper seal was suggested by the selling dealer to just replace it with a new china bowl like a sealand. Are there a lot of problems with the repair or maintenance of them?

Brady, I don't think they are a bad toilet, many Newell owners really like them. The flapper usually only has to be cleaned and lubricated about every five years of general use, which most of these private luxury coaches really never see. Replacement is suggested every ten years. Many Newells have ones that are twenty years of age etc..... The flapper valve seal is very important because it closes off the ejection chamber so that the waste can be blown down the waste line. Keeping it in good condition and the ejection chamber lip clean and free of nicks and cuts is a top priority. In the original design of the toilet, the rubber ring on the flapper valve was glued in place. It was not uncommon for this glue to fail, in service and for the toilet to flip the ring into the ejection chamber when the flapper opened. Needless to say, this could and did have nasty consequences. The ring has been redesigned so that it now has eight pigtails that can be pulled through slots in the flapper valve disc. This holds it securely in place while allowing it to be removed for replacement without disassembling the toilet. If a Microphor toilet has the old-style ring, you should modify the flapper disc during refurbishing to accept the new-style rings. Carefully mark the location of the tail holes, using a new ring as a template and drill holes in the disc. To change the rubber ring on an in-service toilet: shut off the air and water; push the flapper valve open so that you can get at the rubber ring; pull the tails out of the slots or holes; insert the tails of the new rubber ring into the slots or holes (you may have to rotate the disc to get at all the tails); ensure that the tails are all the way through to give a smooth surface to the rubber ring.

Actually we have had very few issues with our Microphor and it is 20 years old this fall. We've replaced the flapper ring only once burt have cleaned it many times. This particular problem of the hopper gasket leaking is a very small leak that was probably caused by drying out (in down times) too many times (just my theory) It seems like the leak decreases in size as we continue to use the toilet and even reseals itself over time as the gasket expands with the constant use, but has become unacceptable. I hope to get it repaired soon.
