Just a few days ago I brought the Newell home from storage to ready it for a weekend trip to Ventura, CA with our son and his family. Elaine, my wife, went into the bedroom to make up the bed and noticed the carpet was wet on driver side of the bed. She alerted me to this problem and we began to search for the source of the dampness. I felt the carpet and the residue on my fingers was slick and had the smell of engine coolant....uuuggh! We lifted up the bed, pulled out the lounge chairs we had stored there and discovered that the heater that runs off the engine was leaking fluid and all the carpet under the bed was saturated....this was at 11pm at night...we were leaving the next afternoon. I checked all the hose connections and they were tight, and not leaking, and there were no obvious ruptures in the hoses. Further inspection of the heater unit showed that the fluid was leaking out of the heater...obviously a bad heater core. I quickly disconneted both hoses from the heater and connected them together to keep the circulation going.

While my wife began wet vacing the coolant out of the carpet I went to check the radiator. It took four gallons to fill it back up....WOW! What if the bed had already been made and we just left on our trip.....well, I don't want to think about that now.

Anyone know where I can obtain a replacement heater?

I'm quite sure you can get one from Newell and can overnight it to you if you need it quick.
Let us know if you got it cleaned up without having to remove the carpet. Go luck and I wish a safe and enjoyable trip.

wow, that would have been a real mess if you had not caught it when you did. i would be interested to know what the core ends up costing and if it fits all the heaters from our vintages...

good luck!

Tom...I'll be sure to post a followup here when I determine the cost. Not a high priority now that we are into the summer, but I'll get to it later this summer.

Hi If you will let me know the size of the heater and the core I may have one. It's from a bluebird and is complete with housing and 12 volt fan. 1 in inlet and outlet at one end that make a 90 degree turn. think its in good shape. let me know what you think.

Hi Warren...I'm on the road right now, but will be back July 1st...will let you know what size the old unit was. Maybe we can do some business!
