Are the winshields on the Classic Newells stock windshields and are they readily available? Someone told me they thought they looked like older Freightliner windshields. Is that true? Anyway, if anyone out there has this info let me know....Thanks!

you might try calling rv glass solutions. they are a nationwide rv glass specialist and they replaced the drivers side on mine. they had it in their warehouse in phoenix. mine is not a classic, but i bet they have them too.

I heard they are the same windshields used in the GMC Astro cabover trucks built in the 70's. I bought mine from Newell. Best price I found anywhere and they will ship direct to the installer if you wish.

We just had Freightliner windshields (2) installed with standard gaskets on our '73 and they are beautiful. The previous owner bought them through Newell a few years ago and just never got around to having them installed. Very nice.

I called Newell about the windshields for my '82 and the guy that I talked to said that they had no record of my size. I am having the new Windshields installed here in Yuma, AZ by "A Touch of Glass". They have them ordered and are scheduled to install them both tomorrow, 2/17/09.
They have had trouble ordering a new Rubber Seal. I have chosen to re-use the original Windshield Rubber rather than use a "Universal" type. What the Glass Guys told me is that they would have to add the middle piece. Since the old rubber is still ply-able, I chose to re-use it.
Clarke, I will ask if they can give me a part number since ours should be the same.

Clarke,

If all else fails, there was a posting on this website at one time that said some of the originals were manufactured by a company in Newton, Ks. and that they were still able to supply them.

About 7 years ago when I had my 76 my friend at a bus garage in minneapolis checked on getting a windshield from the manufacturer in Owattana, Minn and was told that Newell coach had the rights to the windshields and could not sell them direct. He ordered them from Newell and installed them.
They were originally built for astro trucks.
I had both of my windshields plus the 6" center piece on my 88 and they were available through the glass company.
I don't what years Newell has the rights but it does not include the 88 coaches.

The windshields were installed into the '82 yesterday, it looks like they did a good job. I will post some pictures a little later after I get a chance to download them and move them over to this borrowed computer.
I wanted to get back to Clarke, I am trying to find out a part number but the dimensions that they used to order the new glass was 31" tall X 48" wide and that is for each side individually. The Glass was readily available out of Phoenix, AZ.
As I said earlier we decided to re-use the Rubber Seal because all that he could find was a Universal type and then have to make up and glue in the Center Piece.
