Not sure that 'Livin' it up in a Newell' is an appropriate title but I wanted to wish our best to all of our Newell friends that live in the path of Gustav.

Be safe!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you that damage will be minimal. I know that some of you have decided to ride it out and we especially hope for your safety.

As they said on 'Hill Street Blues': Be Careful Out There!!

Thankfully, Gustav was less potent than Katrina, and hit far enough to the west of New Orleans that the damage sustained there is minimal, and the leves pretty much held up. I hope all of our RV friends in the area are unharmed, and in good health.

I was thinking that one of the advantages to living full time in an RV is that you can take your home with you when you are evacuated, and don't have to sit in a motel for 5 days worrying about what happened to your home.

I know that we have a couple of Newell owners that were in Gustav's path that I haven't heard from since the storm and I know at least one of them was going to ride the storm out. Hopefully they did not sustain too much damage. Unfortunately, the press seems to think that New Orleans is the only place on the Gulf coast and only occasionally mentions other areas that sustain worse damage. I heard that Baton Rouge, Layafette and Opelousas were hit pretty hard this time with higher winds than in New Orleans. I suspect there was significant flooding in Houma. We have friends in Lake Charles that had just finished rebuilding their home from Katrina/Rita damage a few months ago.

To all those who had to evacuate and still face coming home to damage, our thoughts are with you.

Michael, you're right.....the media seems to focus on New Orleans. Probably because things went so bad there compared to Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama where local and State governments performed their "first responder" duties quite well during Katrina. These States sustained just as significant damage from Katrina as New Orleans did, and are still recovering. For whatever reason New Orleans sucks up all the media attention during huricanes.

I know that Bernard Arnold lives in Lafayette, and Tuga Gaidry lives in Houma. Hopefully we hear from them soon.

Let us add our thoughts to all of your postings. Let's hope for our fellow Newell owners postings that they have made their way through harms way.

We have appreciated so many of your postings and assistance during our trip so far. We are now 6 and 1/2 weeks into our 8 week trip. We have now toured the Redwoods National and State Parks and they are magnificent, indeed. We continue to get a lot of interest in Coach 303, our 92 beauty. People are genuinely fascinated by the quality and condition. We will proceed now to SF on Thursday and then head east back to Denver to complete our 4,350 mile journey. We are already planning our next one. This life is contagious.

Thanks again for all of your help in keeping us on the road. Michael, Tom and Newell Tech Support have been wonderful. Thank you.

Safe travels to all.

Just got an email from Arnold in Lafayette. He is fine. Lot of clean up, and power is still out. He is using the Newell gennie to run his house. No word from Tuga in Houma.

Still no word from Morris or Tuga. Our daughter returned to Baton Rouge today and said it looks like a war zone. No power, trees laying everywhere, roofs and porches blown off. Lot's of damage and it will take time for the hard working crews to get things back to some degree of normality. I suspect that Opelousas and Houma were even harder hit.

Now with IKE barreling down on Galveston and Houston, many more folks could be affected. We are currently in Austin with our daughters so at least we are all together.

Hopefully Morris will be posting shortly. I talked to him just a few minutes ago. Now they are getting ready for IKE.

Anyone heard from Tuga? Houma has been taking a beating the past several weeks.

I am living in my newell and working the gustav hurricane down in baton rouge. I arrived 2 days after the storm hit and am in an RV park 60 miles west of baton rouge. We had a little wind and heavy rain the other day when Ike hit texas but everything went ok.
When I got here it was non stop electrical repair trucks and tree removal trucks going into baton rouge and now there are literaly thousands of trucks heading from baton rough to texas for another clean up.
I expect to be working here for a month or two and then probably be transfered to some where in texas.
It sure makes working a big difference when you have newell to call home. It looks like adjusters will have work for a couple of years just in texas.

Thanks much, Wally Arntzen

Sorry it has taken so long to respond; we are fine. We evacuated to Shreveport in the Newell. We stayed at my brother-in-law's place; had 50 amp service, water, sewer, and plenty of family around to make it almost a reunion.

Houma took a direct hit from Gustav and much of the low lying areas were hit with flooding but the new levee systems held fairly well and many other homes that flooded in the past were spared. I personally only sustained a little roof damage but no flooding.

Thanks for all of the kind concern. It sure was nice to have a Newell to serve as our home during the storms.

Great to hear from you Tuga. We are very pleased to hear that you sustained little damage and were able to ride out the storm in your Newell.
