Rivets can fatigue over time and break. When this occurs, we recommend that you drill the rivet out and install a pop rivet in its place. (A drive rivet will not work because you can't hold the bucking bar behind the rivet). The rivet head should be covered with a cherry cap. Replacing broken rivets is a relatively easy and quick procedure, although if the area is painted, repainting will be required for a finished, original look.
