I've had some good results from using 3M double sided automotive foam tape for sealing exterior parts together that are typically sealed with mastic sealant. I don't know how long it will last compared to the sealant, but it is used to hold the exterior trim parts on cars and they don't seem to be coming loose and falling off quite old cars.
