Just to add about the Alternator on a 6V92 or 8V92. If these are gear driven look for an accumulation at the base of the adapter, if so the seal is bad. The seal is a $15-$20 part and the alternator is well over $300 for a rebulid because it is a military/marine grade unit and the parts are different.
Just a "heads up" and sharing some experience.
