Steve and Les,
This is an assumption - but from a little wire tracing I believe the Foreign/American switch is supposed to be set to the position that matches how the brake and turn signal lights are configured on your towed vehicle. In the "foreign" position Newell expects the turn signals are separate from the brake lights, and in the "american" position they are one and the same.
I will watch my "level light" more carefully and see if it goes out when Steve's does.
Les, your ABS light should go out when you exceed about 5mph or so. If it is staying on that is a problem and could very well mean the ABS portion of your braking system will not work at all. I would put that one near the top of your lest to get fixed.
