Tom is right. I was typically inarticulate.

The speedo is not driven by a cable. It is actuated via a sensor. There are motors and gears internally, and that is why I said mechanical. I was thinking of the latest VDO speedos which are electronic with an LCD display for the odometer.

Since your VMS is also not picking up the speed, my vote is with Tom, it's likely a sensor issue. I believe he even posted a picture of the ring and sensor a couple of years ago. http://www.newellclassic.com/forum/s...ht=speedometer
