I don't see any reason you could not do that if there were any such numbers actually marked on coaches prior to 1983. It should be an interesting search. Just need a way to differentiate the number from the duplicate numbers that existed until mid 2007 when Newell skipped from 815 (next number would have been 816) to 1200 to make up for the missing 384 coaches built prior to 1983.

Let us know if you find any markings that might give a clue as to a sequence number.
