I talked to Mike at Newell, he says that it only works with the key on, and should automaticly unlock when you turn the key off. So, I need to go back and recheck mine, as I had the key off, heard no click, no hum, no nothing, and assumed it was bad when I threw the swich. He said they have had virtually no trouble with the solenoids, and that it is usually the plates are just loose or misaligned and keeping the bolt from coming down to lock the doors. I will have to check it out with the key on tonight or tomorrow when I go to the storage barn.

He did reaffirm, that on mine the fridge would have to come out to replace it however. It is across the isle from the Microwave and W/D Combo.
