Default Compressor Filter

As I continue my maintenance on my coach, went to drain the filter coming out of the small 110 compressor. Discovered that one of the previous owners had removed all the desiccant and had replaced the petcock with a bolt that was epoxied in. I called Newell about a replacement filter after doing a search here on the filter system. Mike at Newell service told me just to pull the filter entirely, put in a check valve and call it good. He said the system is plumbed into the air dryer in back, and Newell is now removing the compressor filters as coaches come in. Any thoughts yay or nay, didn't see anything about this when I did my search.
