actually the rare earth magnets are to sense when the slide is fully retracted and then allowing the pins to come down. there is a hall effect sensor mounted in the slide pin mechanism on mine that senses the magnetic field from the magnet to close the circuit to lock the pins. i believe yours uses microswitches. it is an hwh thing. they seemed to change quite often how they did it. the magnets come off and i have had to replace some. i got them from grainger.
