With my 6V92T I've found the following: white smoke=unburned fuel, blue smoke=burning engine oil, black smoke=too much fuel being burned. I've been told that white smoke can also be coolant steam and I would guess the odor would be different. My white smoke has a definite diesel odor similar to mosquito foggers. No idea what coolant in exhaust smells like and I hope I never have to.
