Typically you can do a "test" on an area. I think that you will find when you check with the paint supplier that the old paint has been able to fully cure and can be re-coated. Newell uses high end paints so the prep work should be minimal. I have been using a two part single stage paint by PPG on our '52 Pontiac, it is easy to work with but is somewhat pricey (and so are our Newells!)
Anyway I would like to see a couple of pictures of your Century.
