Newell Introduces Multiplex Electrial Control System
According to Newell Coach, beginning with coach 1293, every Newell will have the benefit of the Spyder Controls multipex system.
Quote:
Rather than running individual power wires to every component from their respective switches, a multiplex system uses a single master control wire going completely around the coach. This control wire carries multiple commands, each signal 'coded' for the component it controls. Actually, two control wires are run for backup in case there is a failure.

This system will control shades, audio video and lighting throughout the coach.

While mulling around the Newell factory, I have noticed the mass of wires and wiring harnesses that have been installed on older Newells. This Spyder system is a major innovation: it will save weight and installation time which will (should) reduce cost not to mention maintenance. As I understand it, any additional accessories that are added to the coach after production (like a TV outside) could be placed virtually anywhere.
The backup multiplex master wire is an example of Newell's committment to simplicity.
Way to go guys!

i have gotten into home automation and there are various control systems and methodolgies for doing things over a common bus.
in a small environment like a coach they should work great.
i have experimented with several for homes and they are cool.
i was traveling one time and was controlling the lights in the family room over the internet. i called home and my wife simply asked if it was me turning the lights on and off.
these new coaches are absolutely amazing. certainly nothing like the modest and simple older one that i have.
then again, i dont have 1.5m dollars in mine either.....

You are probably aware that the Prevost converters have been using multiplexed systems for a number of years. With my primitive electrical skills it was one of the big reasons I chose a Newell over a Prevost. In my way of thinking, much easier to diagnose and repair the old school stuff with the knowledge base I have. That's ignorance speaking, and perhaps multiplexed systems aren't necessarily more difficult to diagnose with the right tools.
My guess is that if that Newell stays parked in Tom's driveway it too will soon have a multiplexed system. Tom, you could become the show coach for retrofit.
