Newell Engine Bay Washing
Is there any danger in pressure washing the engine and engine compartment? Has anyone done this and is, and what type of precautions have you taken?

I do it often and so does Newell as you can request it when in for service. I just avoid a heavy pressure spray around most wiring and electrical conections except the battery compartment that i spray out every month or two. i wipe down the stainless after to avoid spots and have good seals on the doors of the electrical and towing components

A couple of other things I might ad to what Larry said, is depending on the year stay away from any open engine breather openings (most intake from outside), any really soft foam or rubber can get tore up. Now we are talking probably 3500 or higher pressure with or without steam. It's always nice to have a clean engine and battery compartments.

If you have any build up, GUNK makes an engine grease remover. Just spray on, let set and spray it off. I have used it and it works good.
Usually they say to apply on a cold or SLIGHTLY warm engine-NOT HOT, including manifolds, so make sure you allow time for cooling before you start. Auto parts and most hardware's have it on hand. If you live in California make sure you get something biodegradable.

My pressure washer is 1600psi and would not use any stronger pressure and agree with Ken's added comments
