Default Bay Door Latches

After 34 years and 200,000 miles the chrome on the latches of the big bay doors is breaking down. I thought I recalled some discussion earlier about replacements but cannot seem to find the thread. Hopefully someone out there will be able to direct me to an appropriate source.

Hi Jon,
I have a catalog from Orr and Orr Inc. that has all the latches used on our Newells. It is an old catalog...You might want to start at their web-site.

Hoosierdaddy: thanks for the info and link. I couldn't find the latches on their website. Would you be kind enough to post the description from the catalog and then maybe I can do a web search to see what's out there.

Thanks much
jon

I would suggest you call them. They may be able to get what you need even if they are not in the catalog. I bought trailer brakes from them 10 years ago, good price and service. They are called Locking D ring locks. Hansen #2102-L is one of the numbers.

Actually I have had very good luck with taking these apart , using some stainless steel polish and the putting them back together using a bit of Lithium Grease. Our are stainless steel but it takes a little more than an hour (including Beer) and I have our original pieces looking and working great.
just my 2 cents worth and I'm sticking to my story.

Darn it, my latches are chromed and the chrome has gone on vacation in some places so polishing won't work. The current price I've found is just over $60 each. They may also have changed the design a bit so I'll order one just to make sure.

Thanks to all for the info
