Wink Alternator rebuild

Hi all,

i finally figured out after my 6k mile trip that my alternator voltage really wasnt as high as it should have been.

it is a leece-neville 160 amp 2800JB alternator.

i measured the voltage at the alternator at idle and running at fast idle to be under 13 volts and 13. 6

so i took it out (not too bad, about a 30 minute job or less) and took it to the leece neville distributor repair center in phoenix and had them rebuild it. they took it totally apart, glass bead blasted it and put new stator, bearings, regulator and diodes.

they said the stator was bad.

the belts are really small and were Napa XL 25 7290's (2 of them, so i got new ones and replaced them too)

a one year warranty on the rebuild for 176 dollars and almost 400 for a new one with the same one year warranty, so i have them rebuild it. took one day and i reinstalled it on saturday. now puts out a strong 14.17 volts at the alternator. both at low and high idle.

here are the before and after pictures.

the extra almost volt made a huge difference on my dash lights....i would assume will charge my batteries better now as well. all in all, pretty painless other than the 176 bucks...but at least i did the removal and install myself.....

later

tom
