Default Diesel Fuel Odor When Fueling

When I fill my fuel tank, my Newell has a diesel odor after the fill up until 10 or so gallons are used. The odor is there moving or setting. It goes away after about an eighth tank is used. The odor coming from the fuel tank area not engine. Hope someone has some suggestions.

Thank,

JDR

I think I'd be worried enough to take it to the shop for an inspection. Where there are fumes, there's a potential for ignition especially, in your basement compartment. IMO fumes = fuel leak. Just don't check it with an open flame!

Get it checked asap. When you smell something coming from the fuel tank have it looked at to be safe.

Kind of sounds like there may be an issue with the Vent Line.

Is the tank vented? If so it should be vented to the outside, maybe the vent line came loose?

I agree with all stated posts above. Check your vent line and if you can't locate any issues get it checked out asap.

fuel and propane problems are things best left for the pros!

Remember at this time of year fuel will expand considerably due to the big difference between underground storage temp and atmospheric temps!

Be safe, it's worth the few (or more) dollars it will cost you.
