Default Dash Amp Meter

I could use some more help Guys,
The Amp Meter at the Dash does not show Charging. The Amp Meter at the Back of the Coach does show that the the Alternator is working and I can check the Volt Meter at the Dash to confirm that all is working.
Is there a way to test the Volt Meter without pulling it? Is there an easy way to open the Dash on my '82?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Steve I am assuming you meant Amp Meter, when you said test it.

Does the Dash volt meter move when you turn on the ignition? Does it move upscale to 13 or more when the engine is running?

Does the amp meter move at all under any circumstances? There may be a fuse in the passenger kickwell, may be, I am not sure.

Have you thumped it? Could the mechanism just be frozen after sitting?

on mine, there is a place on the terminal board for the the amp meter. meaning that you can take a wire off of the terminal post and check it from there to the dash and from there to the rear. there is no fuse for mine for the amp meter. my dash is very different than yours, so can't help you with that.

it is terminal #15 and is the big red wire.

i am talking about the terminal board in front of the passenger kickwell.

Steve....I'll check my wiring schematic tomorrow (coach is in storage right now) and see if I have a similar wiring setup to Tom.....it looks familiar.

Clarke,
If possible I need to get with you when we get back. All of the documentation for this Newell is missing. I have most of the Manuals but none of the Newell Diagrams or Schematics making copies of yours very valuable to me, I will pay the cost of copying. If possible I would like to get together with you next week when we get back to So CA. Looks like I we should be at an RV Park in Hemet for at least a week to try and get into our Cabin and repair the Heater, as long as I can get in. From what I was told yesterday it may be tough to get down our road because of the snow already down (unmaintained about a 1/4 mile into the forest) with more weather coming next week.

Hi Steve,

Clarke is a wonderful resource he is very knowledgeable and has the same vintage coach and is close to you. that said, none of us have schematics and diagrams other than what we have done ourselves. i have a blueprint i got form newell for mine that shows floorplan but not really anything else. unlike bluebirds, there are no wiring diagrams or such for our coaches.

but, Clarke does have a ton of info that i am sure will help you a bunch.

Steve...I sent you a personal e-mail about getting together. Like Tom said, I have a lot of info given me by the previous owner, but no wiring schematics. Feel free to call me on my cell.

Talked with Steve this morning. He and his wife drove their 1982 Newell back from Yuma, AZ arriving back in Hemet on Saturday. Prior to leaving he had his windshields replaced in addition to all six tires. Only problem he had was NO brake lights. He thinks the sealed beam brake lights are burned out. I kept my sealed beam rear lights when I replaced them with the LED tail, brake and turn signal lights, so I'm going to take the old ones down to him this Sunday to replace his failed ones. I'll take pictures of his coach (they won't be nearly as great as the ones Michael took of my coach!!) and post them when I get home.
