Thum Insurance?
Well Progressive raised my rates for renew, it's over $1400.
I had Thum Insurance quote it for the same specs and they come in at under $900!!
Has anyone had to use them on a claim?
How about their roadside assistance, especially towing?
They are quoting me with Blue Sky RV a part of Companion Property & Casualty. Since Karl Blade recommends them I'm assuming they are reputable, but would like some real life experiences. Sure is a lot cheaper!

Being in the property and casualty business I'm always interested in the "rating" of the company. A M Best Company rates all insurance companies based on size, and financial strength. They have an "A" rating. Their size is between $100 million and $200 million, and they are stable. Don't know anything about their claims service, and that would be important. The following was copy and pasted from their website:
Companion Property and Casualty Ins Co
(a member of Companion Property and Casualty Group)
A.M. Best #: 001979 NAIC #: 12157 FEIN #: 570768836
Address: P.O. Box 100165
Columbia, SC 29202
UNITED STATES
Phone: 803-735-0672
Fax: 803-865-3152
Web: www.companiongroup.com
This rating is assigned to companies that have, in our opinion, an excellent ability to meet their ongoing obligations to policyholders.
Best's Ratings
Financial Strength Ratings View Definitions

Action: Affirmed
Effective Date: December 16, 2009
Issuer Credit Ratings View Definitions
Long-Term: a
Outlook: Stable

There is one rating above "EXCELLENT" and that is "SUPERIOR". Seems like a solid company.

Forrest,
I use Thum, but luckily no claims.
Ok, Clarke, the subject begs the question. Are you interested in the Newell insurance biz

i just got my renewal for insurance and it is for $717
my coach is insured for 85,000. i had them tell me how much it would go down for 75k value and it was like 40 bucks or something.
and high coverages for everything
it is through the FMCA and Explorer rv Insurance Agency 1-888-764-6778
the company is Triumphe Casualty
that is for full coverage, diminishing deductible, full glass, towing, personal effects and on and on.
just a data point. i did have one windshield replaced and there was no cost and no hassle.

I had Thum insurance for 3 years but never had a claim. I switched to a local agent because they allow me to Suspend my coverage whenever we are not using it. In our business we have substantial down time and this saves us a substantial sum each year. Thum wouldn't allow "short suspensions"

Hi Richard.....not sure what you mean.....I would have to have non-resident insurance licenses in most of the 50 states to write insurance for all the Newell Owners......I can write for anyone in California, however. I have my Newell insured with Safeco insurance. About $800 per year including unlimited towing.

I just talked to Progressive, it is time for us to renew as well. Our Policy is $1000.00 per year but would have gone down to $850.00 per year if we were to use it less than 30 days at a time.
After talking with the Underwriter this AM I will most likely renew with Progressive. We will continue to Travel for 5-6 months during the Winter and I like having the Mexico Coverage, Pet Coverage and the Diminishing Deductibles.

it is 2011 renewal time and i am shopping again. my current insurance is up to 744 for 85k value. i got a quote from geico today and they will only value the coach for 60.8k. probably ok, but they were 660 dollars, so not really any cheaper. progressive quoted me 1504 dollars....
hey, i dont have tickets and such either....
any other good but cheaper companies you all are using?

We use State Farm - $691.67 Forget what my deductible is but glass is $0 and that is all MN allows for windshields.

I had an interesting phone conversation yesterday. I called Good Sam's GMAC insurance regarding a letter that I received from them. The letter stated that there was some urgent information missing from my policy and for me to contact them immediately. My policy expiration date is April 20th. Three weeks ago I received my renewal and mailed a check to renew my policy. They sent the renewal to my new physical home address.
The urgent information they referred to was my address change. Here's the kicker: they want to increase my premium $76 (for 6 months) or $152/year. My zip code is different now that we have moved, but we still live in the same town. I explained this to the agent.
Sounds like a rip-off to me so I told them I was not going to pay the increased premium. I reminded them that I have been a good customer for many years. This didn't seem to make any difference.
So I told them to cancel the policy!
I'll be calling Thum Insurance this morning to get a quote.

Try Good Sam's insurance. It's for RV coverage. I got twice the coverage for half the price I was paying. It's backed by GMAC a long term company.
