Default Anyone ever seen a 1975 Newell Gasser? Here's one for sale!

While down arranging an engine swap in another classic Newell today, I ran across a Newell on my route that is actually for sale. It has been sitting for a few years but appears to run out pretty good. It is about a 1975 32' Newell Coach with a 391 gas engine and a 6.5k Onan generator that runs. This is the first front engine gas Newell of this year that I've ever seen and thought most all of 1975s were rear engine. It looks pretty much like a 1975 DP Newell but has a front gas engine. This is a very interesting Newell, as it has spent its whole life in Missouri and was originally ordered from Newell to be a mobile bank. The banker that owned it, operated in three small cities or towns as the local mobile bank. This Newell has hauled literally millions of dollars around for several years. Quite the interesting story and I have photographed the paperwork to authenticate its originality. For what it's worth.

Here's some pictures of this Newell. The current owner got it from an estate and will sell it. He was thinking of $3000-4000.00. So, if anyone is looking for a project Newell let me know and I can put you in contact with the owner.

Here are three more shots of her including the front emblem, couch and dash. The banker slept in the coach while guarding some big money without incident.

You can see this baby needs a new home and a good cleaning to get things started. Typical windshield rubbers doing there shrinkage thing.

Okay, here are pictures of the generator and two of the original bank press releases. If you look carefully you can see the names of the three bank branch towns and recognition to Newell Coach as manufacturer.

What an interesting piece of Newell history here. It makes me wonder if anyone currently at the factory has knowledge of such a bus.

That's a piece of Newell Coach History alright, who would have thought they had a bank facility in a Newell coach and it was built specifically for that use. That's too cool! Thanks for gathering this information and taking the pictures to share with us Ken.

Ken that's really neat. I wonder if that bank is still in business? It's neat to see some Newell coach history and it's always fun to find unique Newell coaches new and old.

Speaking of restorations of classic Newells... this would be a fun one. Who's up for the challenge?

Ken this was a extraordinary find. I'm with everyone else thanks for sharing it.

If Newell Classic and this forum hadn't been around all these years I couldn't imagine how many Newells wouldn't have already been restored, but lost and forgotten.

She's a gem Ken, if I didn't have so much on my plate right now I would alomost be tempted! I wonder what kind of mileage it would get with a 5.9 and 6 speed? 12-14? And more room in the back with no engine hump. Any more exterior pics? Looks like it has hyraulic brakes by the looks of the brake pedal?

That's a good thought on a 5.9. Would be interesting to know what kind of mileage it could get. She's a different kind of animal for sure. It's just so strange to see that size coach with a front engine and have the rounded body without the upward wedge nose etc...

If you look real careful left of the couch there is sliding wall divider that is in great shape for what it's worth, but interesting to say the least. I do have some more pics.

The funny thing is, the banker is long since retired resides in the area and seen the coach with interest in owning her again if she would have been in better condition. The current owner says it ran pretty good and he drove it to where it's currently at, but said the brakes need a little work, which is probably due to sitting around for a few years. It's also only just a few miles from the shop where were doing the engine transplant on the other Newell that will be finding its future home in Alberta in the near future.

It probably wouldn't take too awfully much to get it road worthy to head north. Who knows what the Mounties would think of her coming over? Don't know how much forgiveness you would have to get from mama??

Wow that's something else! Who would have thought they made one as a traveling bank branch. That's fantastic! It's great to read what history you got on it Ken. I think it will be a fun project for someone.

Wheeler I couldn't agree more with your last statement.

That's what I call a Newell classic, custom. I may be interested in this coach. Ken I have sent you a PM.

Ken what a cool find. I wonder how many hands it passed through after the bank had it?

Remarkable to say the least. I like seeing older Newells redone and this one would really be the bees’ knees done right and put into a Newell museum. Thinking of that does anyone know what happened to the old original Newell Coach that the factory had and were supposed to be restoring?

It would be neat to see it set up like a bank again but with a built in working atm, some places around here charge $2 per transaction. For places like car shows, races, rallys etc. I think people would like to see that it was originally set up as a bank.

Keith, that would be pretty cool to see it used again for that purpose with an ATM. Casino's get $4 per transaction and I'm sure if someone was offering that kind of convenience at specialty events he could name his price somewhat. Not sure what it takes to set something like that up, but I bet it could be doable. I know some people that started a bank a few years ago and offered me 20% for 20k and I didn't go for it and wish I had of since they sold out just a few years later for a hefty sum.

Im sure if they put those machines all over in gas stations and malls etc. it would be doable, with it being mobile like it is they might have some security issues, I wonder what the insurance companies would say about it? maybe it could have the grandfather clause becuase it was originally built to be a bank!!LOL

I ran across this old newell today near Diamond Mo.
I had to stop and take a look. It needs major work and you would have to be alot more dedicated than me. I think this old girl has found her resting home for a while here. Imho. R.I.P. there may be someone out there to save her, the price is close but would'nt pay 3k
