2056 5/3/2006 8:29:36 PM 5/3/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com front end steering shimmy We have found in the factory service center that the most common cause of a shimmy has been tires. Sometimes a steel belt will shift. It is also possible that some other tire problem is causing an inbalance leading to a shimmy. In any case, if your front tires are close to the six years old you mention, they should be replaced simply because of deterioration from age. If this does not solve your shimmy problem, have the front end checked for wear.

Q
2058 5/4/2006 9:07:54 AM 5/7/2006 Michael Day rvinternet@hughes.net Owner's Manual The reference posted by the Newell staff above indicates that owners manuals did not exist until the late 1980's or early 1990's. I do have an owners manual for my 1992 so they did exist by '92. An owners manual existed for the 1991 Newell I looked at purchasing.

In '92 the owners manual consisted of a small three ring binder with about 46 pages of general information on the coach plus a listing of Newell owners at the time. My coach also came with two large three ring Newell binders with the booklets for many of the components such as the TV's, VCR, cooktop, water heater, rear end, etc.

Q
2063 5/10/2006 7:14:54 AM 5/13/2006 Michael Day mday@hughes.net Shore Power There is a, at least on later Newells, a transfer switch that must be changed from generator to shorepower to get 120 volt power. If you don't have 120 volts to the electric outlets in the coach when plugged into good power, make sure the switch is in the shorepower setting and then check the fuses on the transfer switch unit itself which, at least on my 1992 model is in the bay with the power cords and the converter. If you have 120 volts to the electric outlets in the coach but no lights you probably have a 12 volt problem. Either the batteries have died or shorted out internally or your 12 volt charger/converter is not functioning.

i need a 'ball park' cost to work with.
Thanx.

2066 5/12/2006 9:03:42 AM 5/13/2006 Dave Goldenberg dgzx2@yahoo.com Cummins 903 Hi-
While shopping I found a 1986 model that is 903 powered. First one I have seen. Was this a popular option? What, if any, issues were there with this engine.
Thanks

2068 5/14/2006 7:07:40 AM 5/14/2006 Steve Rice betshalom@earthlink.net Leveling The left rear of my 40' 2002 coach is lower than the right side. I was told by a tech that to adjust the unit, I need to raise the coach to max height, turn off the ignition
key, crawl under the left drive wheel, and loosen the 1/4" hex nut, slide up the rod 1" and retighten. The problem is there is no way to reach the nut since it is located inboard of the inside tire. Any suggestions. One was to place the coach on jacks, and remove the two left wheels. I hope there is a better way to adjust the height.

Q
2069 5/14/2006 7:21:16 AM 5/14/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Leveling NEVER crawl under a coach without properly supporting the chassis with heavy duty (10,000 lb. front, 20,000 lb. rear) jack stands first. The coach can drop without warning, particularly when the body is raised using the leveling system. We'll develop a more complete answer to your question regarding adjusting the ride height valves, but until then, remember that proper use of jack stands is not negotiable.

A
2070 5/14/2006 2:15:12 PM 5/14/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Leveling A customer should never 'crawl' under his otherwise unsupported coach, and especially so, when they are working on the system that supports the coach. That said, if the leveling system is used to raise the coach to maximum height, and the chassis is independently supported for safety, the height control valves can be accessed, although a smaller than average stature technician may be required for the job. It may also take a couple of tries to find the correct adjustment. Our new ZF suspension has height control valves mounted outboard that are much more accessible; such is progress.

To calibrate the new unit it calls for the "exact pulse-per-revolution". Does any one know what number this is? I have a 1999 Model 2000 #527 with a Detroit Series 60 500 HP. Could the pulse generator be bad?

Q
2074 5/19/2006 8:33:31 AM 5/19/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com VDO Techometer We recommend using either 33,160 pulse per revolution, or using the
auto-calibrate mode outlined in the instructions that are normally included
with your VDO part.

The auto-calibrate mode requires the use of a measured mile, but is much
more accurate then the pulse method.

Please call the Newell service department at 888-3NEWELL if you need a copy of the
instructions.
