JL210V72, your Serial Number IS the VIN for your Newell. You may need to remind the Insurance Company that the current 17 digit format for VIN numbers was required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) beginning in 1981. Prior to that time each manufacturer of cars, trucks and motorhomes, used their own numbering system.

Newells from 1980 use the currently required VIN number format and begin with 1N9 and are 17 digits. Prior to 1980, the Serial Number was the Vehicle ldentification Number. In 1979, the Serial Number/VIN I have seen are typically in the format of 3xx0RE10xxD2209N (the x's can be various numbers from 0-9). If you use a VIN Decoder, they will typically mention that they are only valid for 1981 and newer vehicles.

Hope that helps.
