Default 12.5 kohler generator

The genset in my 1990 Newell is overheating due to the cooling fan shutting down after a minute or so of operation regardless of the temp showing on the gauge. I was of the understanding that the fan was controlled by a thermo switch set for 170 degrees. I would like to know location of the switch in order to check if it is operating correctly. Any information would be very much apprecitated. Thank you.
