Default Kohler Generator Oil & Filter Change

I changed the oil filter in my kohler generator today. After letting the generator run for approx an hour, there was a little drop of oil on the bottom of the oil filter. Do I need to tighten that up more? I've heard that you don't want to over tighten them. The filter I took out had oil caked on the bottom of the filter.
