Default How long does fresh water stay good?

I'm assuming the best practice would be to fill up right before the trip and empty whats ever is left in the tank once home so the water isn't sitting stagnant for long periods...am i right? or will water stay fresh for longer periods? How long does fresh water stay fresh?

If it is city water(chlorinated)it seems to stay for months.I have a Renegade conversion and it gets filled sometimes months before we go on trips and the water is always fine.

Will yes emptying your tanks when you get home is a good idea. When we get ready for another trip we always flush and sanitize the water system before use again.

Give your tank shock therapy 1/4 cup household bleach for every 15 gallons of water. Shocking means leaving the bleach in the system for several hours and then draining and refilling with fresh water. With regular use, shock treatment is hardly, if ever, needed. If you are not traveling on a frequent basis and the water sits for months, then I would do a shock treatment before your next trip. If you travel every couple of weeks or so, then you might not worry about bleaching since your waters not stagnant.

If it is from any municipal source, it has a chlorine when you get it. That will keep it good in the tank for weeks.

If you are on a well, go to a spa store and buy the 30% hydrogen peroxide that they sell and use it like bleach.

It doesn't taste as bad and does not make toxic compounds.
