Stewart-Warner Tachometer
Looking for a replacement VDO sending unit with a part number: 340807/1/3 Found one on Ebay that has already sold in January....no others. Not really finding a source on line for this sending unit. If you know of an alternative aftermarket part that would be great.....it has three terminals on top, and looks similar to the one in the picture below (the one pictured only has 2 terminals as far as I can tell). It mounts on the front of the engine just above the fan blade, and next to the turbo. We have checked wiring from front of coach back to engine bay for continuity and it passed.....so did the tachometer, so we are 99.9% sure it is the sending unit. It screws and and engages a "tang", which turns when the engine is on sending a signal to the tachometer.

I wonder if the one from my 555 is the same. I think it runs off of the air compressor shaft. It looks very similar, I can check it out if you like. If you are like me you probably would rather replace it with a new one but if you want it ill send you this one. Did you try Detroit diesel or Cummins for this part? alot of parts they have probably wouldn't be on the internet.

I think I was having a problem finding it because I was calling it a "sending" unit, not a generator. Including the word "generator" in the description gives me several search results. Thank you for your help!
