Default An Inspiring Updated 1973 Newell Coach

Ken was asking me if I had a photo of the air suspension truck seat that I put in my 1973, so I had to go digging through boxes to find a picture that wasn't even close to what he wanted. I did also come across this picture to show what an updated 1973 Newell can look like.

It's always nice to see an older Newell that's been updated.

That's a very nice looking 1973 Newell Classic Luxury Coach! Jon, you seem to always be sporting a dynamite looking paint scheme. Looks like you're always staying ahead of the curve. Now if in 10 years from now you see some crazy Newellaholics running around with Classics sporting a couple of slides with bumped up 60 Series Detroit's, you'll know where it all got started.

My guess it may have had the Cat 3208? What a nice coach. Jon did it have the upgraded air suspension? I know that a guy (owned an aftermarket company),can't think of his name but he did the lighting, bumpers, eye brow or visor (don't quote me on this), and suspension on a bunch of 70's and 80's Newell Coach's.

33' It had a Cat 1160, the normally aspirated (no turbo) V8 predecessor to the 3208 coupled to an Allison 4 speed automatic. Regularly got 12mpg without toad and 10mpg with Ford Ranger extended cab 4X4 toad.
Leaf spring suspension with 2 airbags per axle, no leveling system.
Came with central vac.
Onan 6500 gas generator with it's own 100 gallon tank.
Twin beds that could be put together for a single king.

That was a pretty clean old boy wasn't it. We need to get that submitted over to www.NewellShowcase.com Newell Coach Photo Gallery, Newell Coach Photo Showcase, Newell Motorhome Photos, Newell RV Photos, Newell Photo Gallery - Home so others can view this fine specimen!

I bought it in the 90's, and sold it in 2002. Didn't really want to see it go, but we relocated to Seattle and decided to have a house built. I was a contract programmer and used it to live in when I had to go onsite. After the Y2K fiasco, there wasn't a lot of demand for contract programmers, everybody had been fleeced with the Y2K scare and had blown their budgets. I ended up taking a job at the Costco Corporate headquarters in the IT department in Issaquah Washington and had no need to travel for work.
I did do some upgrades, I changed out the drivers and passenger seats that were out of a 80s vintage GM car with some Bostrom pneumatic truck seats, and replaced the steering column with a junk yard Acura steering column that I was able to move many of the dash controls to the steering wheel.
