The show coach at the Paso Robles Newell Rally in April 2007 was, I believe, the first Newell built with the 12-speed ZF transmission. Newell lists on their website (Features, Details, Specifications) that effective with coach 1251, the standard engine is the 625 bhp C-15, 2050 lb-ft with the 12-speed ZF with an option of the 625 bhp C-15, 1900 lb-ft with the 6 speed Allison. That said, the Tampa show coach, #1258, has the 600 hp C-15 and the 6-speed Allison.

I don't know the percentage breakdown between the ZF vs Allison transmissions. If most of your driving is in the mountains, the 12 speed ZF is the way to go due to the ability to find tune the gearing for both climbing and descent. However, the smooth shifting Allison is frequently preferred by buyers and is, I understood John Clark, faster in 0-50 mph acceleration.

I have been told that orders are running about evenly divided between the ZF transmission and the Allison transmission.

With the availability of the 625 HP C-15 (although at a slightly lower torque) with the Allison that could cause more customers to lean toward the Allison.
