Are you going to strip the old paint? If not you need to scuff it with something like a 3M pad, and apply a sealant that is compatible with the top coat paint you will use. If not the paint will likely peel.

If you do strip it, then you are in for a whole different job. You must prime the aluminum with something like Allodyne, then use a primer, then the top coat.

Putting the top coat directly on the old paint, or on raw aluminum is not a long term solution in my opinion.

If you use Imron, be very careful. It is extremely toxic to breathe. It is a cyanoacrlyate catalyzed paint that basically adheres to your lung tissue like superglue.
You MUST use a respirator with supply air.

Thanks again for the additional information, I will visit my local Sherwin Williams store to check out the options. They certainly have some excellent products,as we found out recently when we had our home repainted using their Duration house paint, which is guaranteed for life against fading, chipping or peeling. Pretty expensive but well wish the extra $$!

Larry,
Typically you can do a "test" on an area. I think that you will find when you check with the paint supplier that the old paint has been able to fully cure and can be re-coated. Newell uses high end paints so the prep work should be minimal. I have been using a two part single stage paint by PPG on our '52 Pontiac, it is easy to work with but is somewhat pricey (and so are our Newells!)
Anyway I would like to see a couple of pictures of your Century.

Thanks Steve, I will definitely do a test area.I would love to send a couple pics of the century as soon as I figure out how to reduce the size so they will fit. Any instructions?

Imron requires not only respriator but eye and skin protection. I used a self-contained battery power positive power system from 3-M company. For paint go to a professional automotive or truck paint supply for automotive products. I painted a 3 color Imron job on my 71 using 3.5 Imron and a clear coat overcoat. Imron was the system used by Newell shop on all Newells from the start. Original was 5.0, new system is Low-vol 3.5. My 71 had white top a green mask and clear over the aluminum. New paint is white top purple mask & stripe with a blue bottom. Automotive paint is a special product. Paint work prep paint and finish required about 5 weeks. Big project.

Sherwin Williams paint is no match. I did try a bright red enamal on my 59 Ford flat bed about 3 years ago. It's faded and lost much color in the short time. They said it was a heavy duty enamel sutable for outside use. I know better but it was cheep. Got what I paid for. Happy to tell what I know about paint process 417-866-0261.

Thanks James. Wow, I may be biting off more than I want to chew. I will spend a lot more time investigating my options before beginning this project. May have to wait til spring or do it when we go to Fl. Of course, if you have nothing else to do........................!

Larry,
DETCO makes a 2 part epoxy type paint that can be rolled and tipped or sprayed. Sterling has become the standard for painting yachts and looks like it was sprayed when applied correctly by brush (rolled and tipped). You may consider hiring this out just because of having to be on the roof;

if you though that automotive paint was expensive hold on! this stuff looks great and lasts unbelievably but you get what you pay for.

Windshield replacement.
I will be replacing both sides in the next week or two. I may have a few photos to post.

My Son has a new Glass Company (Performance Glass Works) and he will do the job.
He was one of the main installers for another company for 10+ years and assisted in many Motor Coach glass replacements.
I will POINT!

You've got a deal Dean! When will you be here? I'll leave the light on for you! Actually, that sounds like a good solution. In our weather, we should shoot for sometime in the spring, if you are truly interested. Larry
