Default additional awning?

I am thinking of adding another Awning to our '82 above the Saloon (Living Room) Window on the Starboard (Right) side. I have seen that some others in the Galley that have one in this location and wanted some advice from someone with experience.
It looks like the Entrance Door would hit the Arms of the Awning when it was Extended, is there an easy way to help with this problem. The reason that I am thinking of this is that the Larger Awning should come down when it gets Windy and that leaves the Window in question exposed.
here is a link to another '82 with the Awning;

thanks in advance,

Hey Steve:

Our #303 has the exact setup that you speak of. We do not have the big awning, just awnings that shade the windows. We use a very sturdy umbrella to provide shade where we want it and when we want it. When our window awning is fully extended, which includes the doorway, the door does not open all the way. We have to sort of slide in sideways when extended in that fashion. The other way that we solve the problem, is to shorten the extension of the awning to door level height, which then allows for the door to open all the way and for us to come and go normally.

Most of the pre-1997 Newells have ZipDee Awnings all around. David has a different brand (A&E I think). Basically you have two options. One, as David points out, is to remove the large main awning and install window type awnings. A longer window type awning that covered the door as well as the front window might solve the door hitting the awning arm issue. The other is to add a lateral arm awning that would clear the door but is not as strong in higher winds as the standard ZipDee window awnings.

I will be leaving the Large Awning in place and adding a smaller one if all works out. If you follow the link from my earlier post you will see that the '82 Newell in the Gallery has both the Large as well as the smaller Awning over the Window that I am wanting.
It looks like the Door would hit the Awning Arm if the Awning was deployed and the Door was Opened, in the wind this would be a problem and that is when the smaller Awning would be used. I wanted to know if there was a way to stop that from happening.
By the way, this is all Clarke's fault because he is adding an Awning I need to keep up with the Hockwalds!

Steve, the only way I know to eliminate the problem with the door hitting the awning arm is to use the lateral arm awnings. I know that Carefree of Colorado makes lateral arm window awnings called the Marque.

thanks Michael but I will stay with the OEM ZipDee Awnings. I would guess that I will need to install a bumper of some sort. I'll talk with ZipDee first chance I get.

i dont use the awning that is over my passenger side couch window for that very reason. the door whacks on it. i can see it has had a rubber bumper on the awning at some time, but it isnt there now.

Tom,
Thank is exactly what I was concerned about. You say that at one time there was a bumper of some sort. Could you describe what it would have been. Is your Door Aluminum or FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic).

Steve, my 88 coach has the setup that you are talking about. I had small awnings on all of my windows and no large awning. 2 years ago I had Newell put a large one on and it is above the small ones mounted above the drip guter. You are right that the door will hit the arm when the awning is out but does not bother me. It does mark up the paint a little but you could correct that with some sort of a bumper installed either in the door or the awning arm.
I use both the small awnings and the large for different weather conditions. When I park for an extended period I put out the large one and strap it down so the wind does not take it away.
All of my awnings are zip dees and the new one that I had put on matched the others perfectly even though the small ones were 20 years old at the time.

Wally,
That is what I was thinking. I am concerned that my Aluminum Door would get dented if the wind was to get it. Tricia's left arm isn't quite as strong as it was prior to her surgery so it was hard for her to hold it when we were at Emerald Cove and the Wind came up.
It just seems that this addition would make the Coach more versatile.

I just ordered an 8' window awning from ZipDee to cover the kitchen and shower windows on the driver's side. Cost was $510 + shipping. The cost for 2 separate window awnings was over $800 (2 sets of hardware). I may add one over the salon window in the future, but right now the patio awning covers tha window, plus the bathroom window now. Should have it by the 16th.

On mine it really has not dented it but has gouged the paint several times. I had some paint mixed that matches my door and touch it up at least once a year.
For me its worth the nonsense of a few nicks to have use of the awning and I have not took the time to figure out how to protect it which would be a better way to go.
We rarley hit it when using the door under normal conditions but your right, when a wind gets ahold of it is when you have a problem with it hitting.

Hi Steve...sorry for not responding earlier...was on the 200 mile trike trip from 6/8 until 6/13, and just noticed your question. I called the "800" number from the website, but do not remember the name of the nice lady who handled my order. She was very helpful, and informative. When I open the "tube" I'm sure her name will be there somewhere, and if I find it I will let you know right away.

By the way, I just received my cool "Xtend and Climb telescoping 12.5 foot ladder" I ordered through Ebay. Just like the one Tuga had at Austin. I have used it, and love it! If anyone else is interested in this ladder, here is a link to the seller on Ebay....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=150260163573

Tuga said he paid over $250 for his ladder. I paid $149 plus shipping for mine. telescopes down to 2.5 feet for easy storage. Rated at 225 pounds. If you need a ladder that can hold more than 225 lbs. they have more expensive models that will hold more weight.

Great lead on the ladder, Clarke. I hit the link and it now shows $169 for me. I bet you got them down on the price by offering them some of Tom's Rootbeer? If so, I'll try that too. lol.

hi ron,

when you get it and have used it, please give a review.

i have used wallys 14.5 ft telesteps 1800w with the wide steps and it was awesome. i weigh 280 and it held me easily.
12.5ft is enough for me as well.

Wow, Ron, that is a killer deal. I don't need the 330 lbs, but had I seen that one I would have gone for it.....free shipping too! David, Ron's deal is the way to go...forget the link I sent you...here's the link for the one Ron bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

$30 less than I paid (including shipping) and rated 104 lbs. more.
