869 12/28/2002 6:37:31 AM 12/28/2002 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com V.I.N. location The VIN label is located on the inside wall to the left of the driver's seat. If this label is missing, a new label can be obtained by calling the Service Department at Newell Coach, 1-888-3NEWELL. Late model coaches also have the VIN engraved on the left wing of the dashboard, visible from the exterior looking through the driver's cab window.

870 12/28/2002 6:46:23 AM 12/28/2002 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Synthetic oil's in the 8V92 We suggest you contact your nearest Detroit Diesel distributor to purchase Detroit's private label straight weight synthetic. As we recall, Detroit recommends SAE40. While the "traditionalists" at Detroit Diesel do not agree, we repeat our prior comment: at Newell we like the performance of multi-vis Delvac 1 with Series 92 engines, based upon superior cold weather starting. We have considerable experience as well as oil analysis documentation to back up our recommendation, which we have shared with Detroit. But old habits are hard to break.

874 12/29/2002 3:21:16 PM 12/30/2002 Steve Saraga s.saraga@att.net Synthetic oil's in the 8V92 Thank's for the response. Is the private label synthetic available at a Detroit Diesel distributor the product manufactured by Mobil, or is it something other? And if you have considerable experience with multi-vis Delvac 1, which vis were you recommending in your coaches? I am only so far able to find 5W-40. Would you recommend this vis for a Series 92? I live in Florida, and I must admit, 95% of my operations are in warm to hot climates.

875 12/30/2002 4:58:05 AM 12/30/2002 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Synthetic oil's in the 8V92 We were told by both Mobil and Detroit Diesel engineers that the private label Detroit Diesel synthetic lube oils were made by Mobil and were virtually identical to the respective Delvac 1 products. Delvac 1 was originally offered in 5W-40 and, as I recall, 5W-50, although the Mobil website currently lists only one product, 5W-40. The straight weight synthetic lube oil is Mobilguard SHC 40. Our service department follows Detroit Diesel's recommendation of the straight weight Mobilguard SHC for Series 92 engines. Personally, I prefer the multi-vis Delvac 1, particularly for its better performance and engine protection in cold start situations. That said, either is a premium product and offers superior performance to conventional mineral base oils. By the way, our friends in motor racing use synthetic oils exclusively, be it Nascar, IRL, CART, or F1. In addition to better lubrication performance under stressful conditions, synthetics consistently dyno with small, but consistent horsepower advantages. We expect that fuel economy would show similar improvement.

876 12/30/2002 12:54:02 PM 12/30/2002 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com V.I.N. location Apparently, the serial number label on the interior wall of your coach has been removed or covered during a renovation. We understand that you are in telephone communication with our staff and that we are making a new label to send to you for installation. The loss of a serial number label on an older coach is not unusual, and we can provide replacement labels when necessary.

884 1/11/2003 8:10:17 PM 1/12/2003 Raul Cortez raulcortez@aol.com New Paint for a 1995 Newell I will be trying to sell my coach soon. Since it needs minor body work for scratches here and there, I was wondering if I should get completely painted or just repair the problem areas? Will a paint shop be able to blend the colors with touch ups? How much should I expect to pay for a complete painting of my coach? Comments and suggestions are appreciated from anyone? My coach is a 1995 45' Newell. Coach #401. Anyone interested in purchasing should contact me as well.

Q
885 1/12/2003 8:42:02 AM 1/12/2003 J Clark jvclark02@cs.com New Paint for a 1995 Newell Hi Raul-
If you're considering using a local paint shop, be sure to check out their experience in painting aluminum. We had one painted at a local truck shop and the entire base coat peeled off within hours. They finally got it right (three months worth) and honored their original price of $5000. I later checked out Newells factory paint system and they paint their coaches just like they build them- nothing but the very best. I don't know what they charge, but the time they spend just on preparation (which is critical to a good paint job)is unbelievable. Based on the quality of work I saw at the factory, and the type of paint they were using, I would guess well over $10,000 for a 45' coach. Like an old Southern expression goes "you gets whaats yo pay fo".

Good luck- jc
